On February 20 (Tuesday at 11.00 a.m. in Almaty, a press conference "A multifaceted approach to combating torture in Kazakhstan" will be held, timed to coincide with the launch of a new long-term project supported by the European Union
"Breaking the Vicious Circle: a multifaceted approach to combating torture in Kazakhstan" is a three–year project (January 2024 – December 2026) launched by the Taldykorgan Human Rights Center (a member of the NGO Coalition of Kazakhstan against Torture) in partnership with Penal Reform International and the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights Human Rights and Rule of Law (CMBHR), Coordinator of the Coalition.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the elimination of torture in Kazakhstan by ensuring more effective investigation of cases of torture, improving torture prevention mechanisms, offering rehabilitation and compensation mechanisms to victims of torture, and promoting measures aimed at eliminating torture.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to continue to provide direct assistance to victims of torture and ill-treatment, to work in this direction with law enforcement and judicial officials, as well as with the human rights and legal community, as well.
