Scientific and Practical Conference «PARTNERSHIP FOR JUSTICE: THE STATE AND SOCIETY AGAINST TORTURE»

On June 26, 2025, in honor of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the scientific and practical conference “Partnership for Justice: The State and Society Against Torture” will be held in Astana.
The goal of the event is to foster a sustainable dialogue and strengthen cooperation between state bodies, civil society institutions, and international partners in order to:
• effectively prevent torture,
• ensure fair and impartial investigation of torture and ill-treatment,
• implement the right to rehabilitation and compensation for victims of torture in Kazakhstan.
The conference will bring together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, human rights NGOs, the legal and medical communities, as well as researchers and independent experts.
The agenda includes three thematic sessions:
Session 1. Prevention of Torture
Session 2. Effective Investigation of Torture
Session 3. Compensation and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims
Participants will discuss current challenges and opportunities for joint action, present successful national and international practices, and develop recommendations to improve both governmental and public responses to torture and ill-treatment.
The conference is organized in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The event is held within the framework of the project “Breaking the Vicious Circle: A Multidimensional Approach to Combating Torture in Kazakhstan,” implemented with the support of the European Union.
